how do you know if you never been on it ?
Hear so much about it from the people who work for me, also causes lots of arguments when people get to see things they are not supposed to (not everyone knows how to set their privacy boundaries!).
Who wants to live their life in full view of others, apart from sad individuals who want to become "slebs"

Facebook is as good or as bad as you want it to be.
I have a couple of identities on there, one with my actual name with seven
friends, and one using another name, where I have just a couple of friends.
How people can claim to have 100+ friends is beyond me. They are friends
of friends of friends.
I belong to a photographic group, and help to moderate another one.
They are a great way of being in contact with like minded people.
If there are people you dont want to interact with, just put them on ignore.
I've done that with quite a few.

'Friends' is a misnomer on FB - some are people you simply interact with but find it easier to have this type of link with them to help with data transfer and updates - but then I suppose I am a 'special' case

The FB page of "Digital Photography: Photo contest group", which I help
to moderate. It's connected to Mike Browne Photography.
I also belong to to "SUFFOLK COUNTRYSIDE PHOTOS UK ", even though I am in Essex.
